From Tim: Tachi & Dai – Sho Sabaki will give people plenty of material to work with for a weekend.Covering different uses, some basics of the weapons historically, and techniques and scenarios for using these wonderful weapons. As Soke has often said, “People have lost their connection with weapons, once commonplace for us to carry and hunt with; weapons are now seen as instruments of violence… A far cry from the tools we used to provide our food and protect our country, home and loved ones. The use of weapons symbolises our connection with nature and our place in the cycle of life and death.” Combined with Taijutsu, sword work epitomises our evolution, our ability to learn and adapt and our willingness to make a sacrifice for the greater good. Over the past 5 decades the proliferation movies and books on the subject of sword-play has turned this noble art into a source of entertainment with little practical skill…. Let’s take a few hours in March to get back to basics and rediscover the importance and beauty of real sword skills. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and time with everyone and I am confident that both novice and experienced practitioner alike will get something out of this weekend.

I am looking forward to heading back to Sydney and seeing friends and students for a weekend of enjoyable and practical sword study.

Yours in Budo,
Tim Bathurst
